Basma mustafa
An exiled Egyptian journalist based in Berlin, recipient of local and international awards, with over a decade of experience uncovering human rights violations. She has been arrested three times for her work and has led open-source investigations into war crimes in Sudan. She works as an independent journalist with German and international outlets and is a fellow at Reporters Without Borders.
She co-founded Law and Democracy Support Foundation, a civil society organization based in Berlin that aims to promote the rule of law and democratic principles in the region. She serves as Director of Programs, leading the organization’s strategic planning and overseeing documentation and international advocacy projects using UN mechanisms. She supports exiled journalists and human rights defenders, with a particular focus on combating transnational repression and developing more effective protection responses in countries of refuge and exile, especially in Europe.
